30.11.2009: Aer Ireland confident for the future despite falling Turnovers
Irish carrier Aer Ireland reported drawbacks in revenue and profits this Monday morning. Revenues decreased from 34.1 Mio AS $ to 33.7 Mio AS $, while profits sank from almost 10.6 Mio AS $ to 7.3 Mio AS $. The operating margin plummited therefore frome an acceptable 30% to 21% this week.
Aer Ireland CEO Patrick McBarrister commented: ,,These financial numbers are due to severe changes undertaken this week and do actually prove how well the new strategy is already working, as the management expected much heavier downturns this week. Parallel to the return and exchange of 6x private leased older Airbus A320-200 aircraft, Aer Ireland also opened its second hub in Glasgow International, Scotland, which could become the new major home for the Irish traditional carrier.
Already catering for more than 200 weekly departures and 6x based Airbus A319 aircraft, another two will be delivered this afternoon and based there. After the congestion at Dublin International Airport, where we will keep pace and hold our share in slots to extend it when possibilities arise, Glasgow International is an excellent choice to foster expansion again. All routes offered so far have been met by an astonishing customer response and we are currently almost fully booked."
McBarrister added, provided everything follows schedule, at Christmas Eve, Glasgow International could possibly cater for 800 - 1000 departures already, with 20 - 24 Airbus A319 aircrafts based.
The management therefore looks relaxed forward to the upcoming business week and expects a major shift in transportation statisctics and financial results. CFO Taylor said, ,,we are indeed looking at an expected profit of over 11 Mio AS $ and more."
